If possible (using the boot manager discussed in the above article) I would like to boot my HP Vectra from USB (with the Fujitsu drive connected to the USB port using VANTEC adapter). Run full backups of the hard drives on the computers to be protected. Include System State for Windows 2000 and Windows XP computers, and Shadow Copy Components for Windows 2003/Vista/Server 2008 computers. Do not exclude any files from the full backups; otherwise the *.dr file will not be created.
Backup Exec automatically creates a *.dr file for the IDR-protected computer when it is backed up and stores it in the default location on the media server's hard drive, which is:
C:Program FilesSymantecBackup ExecidrData<computer name>.dr.
1. Go to Tools> Wizards> Intelligent Disaster Recovery Preparation Wizard as shown in (Figure 1)

To use another computer to create the bootable CD image ,Click Choose a media server that has the IDR option installed.

A non-bootable disaster recovery CD can be used to run the Intelligent Disaster Recovery Wizard if the manufacturer of the computer that you protect requires you to start the computer using the manufacturer's bootable CD.
You can also use the Intelligent Disaster Recovery Preparation Wizard to copy disaster recovery *.dr files to any location.

4. Select the computer to be protected (Figure 4)
i). Select the server on the left under Available Computers
ii). Click the arrow button to move the computer to the right under Selected Computers
iii). Click Next
If a computer you want to protect does not appear in the Available Computers pane, click Browse to search for the computer. You can also type the name of the computer in the field next to the Add button and then click Add.

5. Select Location for CD Image to be saved and click Next (Figure 5)

6. Select Path to Windows Operating system installation files (.ISO Image) and click Next . (Figure 6)
The Windows operating system you specify in the installation path must match the Windows version and language of the computer being protected.

7. Wait for Disaster Recovery Image to be populated.
8.Click Next.
9.Click Finish.
To write the CD image to a CD, use a third party ISO 9660-compliant application.
