Please note that with The Sims 4, you do not need a Package folder within the Mods folder (like we had to do for The Sims 3). The Resource.cfg will stay in the main Mods folder with the rest of the files and/or folders that you add. Extract the files and place the.package file into your Documents Electronic Arts The Sims 3 Mods Packages folder – the same place where your NoBuildSparkles.package and nointro.package mods are. If you want to delete any mod, you can simply delete the related.package file. Read the instructions on the mod page. Extract: Use WinRAR (Windows) or Stuffit (Mac) to extract the.package file(s) from the.rar or.zip file(s). This download is meant to be placed in Program Files (x86) Electronic Arts The Sims 3 Island Paradise GameData Shared NonPackaged Worlds folder. Isla Paradiso should be at The Sims 3.

Read before proceeding! If you have ever had your custom content in Program Files (either manually or using the Helper Monkey/Monkey Bars), you must uninstall Monkey Bars/Helper Monkey, and remove the old framework files from Program Files path first! If you don't, some of your custom content may not work! |
Setup Folders & Files
Before you can put the .package files in your game, you'll need to set up your game to accept custom content. From patch 1.12 and up, this is very easy!
1.- Windows XP: C:Documents and Settings<user name>My DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3
- Windows Vista/7: C:Users<username>DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3
- Mac OS: /Users/<username>/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/
2. Download the ready-made FrameworkSetup.zip This file contains everything you need to set up your game for custom content. Right-click on the download link below and choose 'Save link as.' Save it into your DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3 folder (the same folder you just opened).
Jul 29, 2010 Activate Office 2010 KMS host via phone activation. If you are in the USA, you can then dial phone # 888-725-1047 to input your installation ID. If you are NOT in the USA, at a command prompt type “c: windows system32 slui.exe 4”. Then choose your country to get the phone #. After you get your phone # from this screen. Office 2010 installation id confirmation id.
3.4.
5.
Note: The picture shows them with a little green plumbbob icon, and 'Sims3 Package' under Type. It's okay if your icon looks like a Sims 2 package icon, a monkey, a white sheet of paper, or anything else, and the type may say 'PACKAGE' or something else. Icon and exactly what it says for 'type' are irrelevant as far as working in the game is concerned - what matters is that it ends with .package.
6. Everything okay? Do your folders look as they should in step 4 and step 5, with all the right files/folders in place?
- Yes! Good! Proceed.
- No! You must have done something wrong. Delete the DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3Mods folder and start try again from step 1.
Test!
Now if you run the game, your .package files should be fully working in-game! You already have two package files installed, so you can tell right away whether things are working properly.
- nointro.package: The No Intro will eliminate the EA Intro video before the game starts loading, which makes it very quick and easy to see if things are setup properly. If the plumbob animation and intro videos no longer play (you go straight to the loading screen), then you know your .package file content is working!
- NoBuildSparkles.package:Nobuildsparkles will show that your custom content is actually working in-game. Go into build mode and build a wall, or a room. If no sparkles appear, then other package format content should work as well!
Both of these files work for any patch level and any/all expansions/stuff packs.
If you still get the intro movie and build sparkles showing when you test in-game, you must have done something wrong. Delete the My DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3Mods folder and try again from Step 1 of 'Setup Folders and Files' above. It will work this way if done properly!
Placing Package Files
Now that you know that package files are working right in your game, you can start downloading custom content yourself!
Of course, you'll need to have read about any special instructions or compatability (make sure everything you get works with your patch level and expansion/stuff packs!), download the files, and extract them from their archives. All of that is explained in detail on: TS3 CC Basics - go there and read about it if you don't know how to do that!
Then, you just put any .package files you've extracted into your DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3ModsPackages folder - that's the same place as the NoBuildSparkles.package and nointro.package files are. You can cut and paste them into the folder - just move them from whereever you extracted them, or extract them straight into that folder.
You can, of course, delete the NoBuildSparkles.package and nointro.package mods if you want your intro/build sparkles back - they were just there to show you where to put the files, and to verify that packages are working in your game.

First things first, make sure your Mac meets the minimum requirements for The Sims 3, and for the most recent expansion pack you have installed.
Sims 4 Mods Folder Maxis Match
Here’s how to check requirements for an expansion pack:
- Find the game tile for your expansion pack in the Store on origin.com or in the Origin client.
- Click the game tile to open the game details.
- Click on System Requirements to see the minimum requirements.
Keep macOS updated
To keep everything running smoothly, we recommend keeping your graphics drivers up-to-date. macOS does this automatically with each new version of the operating system.
We also recommend you always run the latest version of macOS for your Mac. Origin only supports more recent versions of macOS.
- If you’re using an older version of macOS, you’ll need to download a special, legacy version of the Origin client. This older version of Origin has fewer features than the current version, but will still allow you to play your games.
- Head to this thread on Answers HQ for more help with The Sims 3 on Mac.
Changing your graphics settings
If your graphics are glitching, it may help to lower your graphics settings:
- Open The Sims 3.
- Click on the … (options) button at the bottom left of the screen or press F5 on your keyboard.
- On the Graphics tab (usually the one that opens by default), slide all the sliders under Graphics details to low.
- Click on the blue check mark at the bottom right to save your changes.
- Restart The Sims 3 and check to see if it runs better now.

Still not better? Try running in Windowed mode:
- Open the Graphics options again.
- Uncheck the box beside Enable Fullscreen Mode.
- Click on the blue check mark at the bottom right to save your changes.
- Restart The Sims 3, and see if Windowed mode works better for you.
Some Macs have two graphics cards in them, one that is built in to the processor and used for standard tasks, and another that is used for high-performance applications, like games.
Use About this Mac to check what kind of graphics cards you have.
If your Mac does have a dedicated graphics card, check your Energy Saver settings if you notice your Mac slowing down when you’re playing The Sims 3.
Here’s how:
- From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
- Click Energy Saver.
- Check these two things:
- Graphics options – if you see this, click on Higher Performance.
- You’ll need to log off and back on to your Mac to apply this change.
- Automatic graphics switching – turn this off to force your Mac to use the dedicated graphics card all the time.
- Graphics options – if you see this, click on Higher Performance.

Disk authorization failure error
If you’re playing on macOS X Yosemite or earlier, repairing your disk permissions can help with this one.
Follow the steps in this Apple support article to run Disk Utility on your Mac.
Newer versions of macOS automatically maintain and protect system file permissions, so there should be no need for you to repair file permissions.
Installation stuck error
- Open Origin.
- Click the Origin menu and choose Preferences or press ⌘, the command key and comma).
- Click Installs & Saves, then click the Browse installers box.
- In the Finder window that opens, delete any folders you see with Sims 3 in the name.
- Log out of Origin and restart it.
- Start your download again and the game should now install properly for you.

Unknown error
We’re still looking into what causes this error to pop up for some players on Mac. These solutions might help you resolve the issue:
- Update to the latest version of Origin.
- Reset Origin on your Mac.
- If it happens after you’ve installed a new expansion pack, try uninstalling it.
System requirements for an expansion pack are often higher than the ones for The Sims 3 itself, so sometimes a Mac that will run the base game has trouble running some of the later expansion packs.
If you’re sure that your Mac meets requirements, and you installed your expansion from a disk, try installing a digital copy through Origin instead. You won’t need to buy the expansion again, just redeem your code in Origin if the expansion is not showing on your account.
If none of these fixes work, visit Answers HQ for troubleshooting steps and a video walkthrough.
Have you updated your game or run the super-patcher?

It’s best to make sure The Sims 3 is fully up to date before you install an expansion. Then, check for updates for that expansion before you try to install another one.
If you’re playing through Origin, it’ll keep everything up to date for you.
- But if you’re playing from disks, we recommend you download and run the superpatcher for The Sims 3 before you install any expansions.
If you’ve done this a little out of order, you may not see any problems, but if you think it could be what’s causing the unknown error, try this:

If your game crashes when you load it, you may want to switch to a previous save file to get things working properly again.
Sims 3 Mods Folder Pc
First, back up your game files:
- In Finder, click your hard drive (usually Macintosh HD unless you renamed it).
- Click Users, then your username.
- On older Macs, this could be called Places.
- Open Documents, then Electronic Arts, then The Sims 3.
- Click the Saves folder, and hold down ⌘ C (Command and C) to copy it.
- Switch to your desktop and press ⌘ V (Command and V) to paste it there.
- Rename the folder to something like Sims 3 backup saves so it’s different from the original.
Now, we’re going to move and rename another file.
- Head back to your original The Sims 3 folder in Finder (steps 1-3 above).
- Open the Saves folder and drag the file that ends in .sims3 to your desktop for safe keeping.
- You should only have one file left in this folder, with a filename ending in .sims3.backup
- Rename this backup file, changing the ending to .sims3
- This tells your game to use this save file when it loads.
- Restart The Sims 3 and see if it now loads properly for you.
